In one of the year’s great sporting upsets, a self-proclaimed football know-nothing has beaten some of Britain’s finest footy bloggers to win BuddyBet’s inaugural Premier League prediction game.
Despite knowing virtually nothing about soccer, BuddyBet employee Chris Kottom topped a field of 25 experts recruited at November’s Socrates Football Bloggers Meet-Up, which BuddyBet sponsored.
To prove Chris’s win wasn’t a fix, he’s reluctantly generously agreed to donate his £300 top prize to Alive & Kicking, the football-producing African social enterprise that BuddyBet is backing with its Christmas charity campaign.
Asked to explain his unlikely triumph, the American systems architect offered the following advice: “Darts at a board, people. I highly recommend it.”
The second prize, £150, goes to Mark Smith, author of the Czech football blog Play Waved On…
Third prize (£50) went to Simon Pilkington of Talking Sports.
See below for the complete results.
BuddyBet’s Socrates prediction league is the prototype for a series of similar games, which we’ll be rolling out in early 2013.
